Karma is a boomerang meaning As you sow so shall you reap.

Well, one might not heed this spiritual law seriously, living in a pragmatic world but the perpetrators, however, cannot escape from the law of karma, says debutante Karthick Naren (who is perhaps the youngest filmmaker in the country) in DhuruvangalPadhinaaru.

Dhuruvangal Padhinaaru is a crime investigation thriller that revolves around a police officer and his endeavor to nab a killer.

The story of the movie arrives as a flashback to the audience, as the protagonist narrates it to the second person, an impostor, later revealed to be one of the crucial characters in the movie. The movie opens with the voice over of Deepak

(Rehman), that is believed to be the speech of his soul as it leaves his body, similar to what the character of Ajith does in the movie Vaali. In the monologue, Deepak describes his past, emotions, trauma and destiny of life. He explains why he resigns reluctantly to his fate, gives the reason behind his capitulation to the complex phenomena of life and expresses why he has no qualms about being a pawn in the game of life.

Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru represents a typical whodunit crime thriller. The story peeks into the fact findings of a crime incident that is complexly woven.

Deepak, being assisted by a newly appointed constable Goutham, a fervent subordinate, is on a mission to catch hold of a murderer who is suspected to be a serial killer. He analyses the case practically in all the ways to conclude a theory of the murder.

The movie shows an intensive probe into a murder incident in a realistic manner. As the title says, the investigation case is based on tracking details converged from 16 extremes. At the time of the revelation of the story behind the crime, you will realize how every detail counts in getting the matter squared. Interestingly, the entire story is told from the opposite perspective (from the perspective of Goutham), that accuses Deepak of committing an offence and ends up in making him feel vulnerable to it.

The moral of the story says that Karma may not instantly reciprocate, like a conventional boomerang but it reflects over time, going through the inexplicable process of events. After 20 years, an unfinished investigation case strikes Deepak in a peculiar manner to knock him off, which already left him crippled.

Interestingly, Deepak accepts his death in his own stride because he was prepared for it and always believed that life is unpredictable, and Karma is certain to pay back in unexpected ways.

However, the movie has certain unfilled loopholes, that perhaps are expected to be filled by the viewers. The screenplay and cinematography are the assets of the movie. The writing is tight, leaving no space for lags or drags engaging the audience, tightly hooked to the story. The lighting sets the right mood for the movie. The lowlighting visuals enhance the narration of the dark thriller.

Dhuruvangal Padhinaaru is a great comeback for Rehman. The role suited him aptly. He looks convincing as a senior cop and had the subtlety to deliver a fine performance. The role is his career-best till date.

Karthick Naren makes a spellbound debut with this movie. The movie, being a debut of a 21-year-old, came as a shocker to the film fraternity and the audience alike. His conviction, writing, vision is commendable. Dhuruvangal Padhinaaru makes Karthick Naren . The new poster boy of Tamil Cinema
