Dhrishyam 2- A befitting sequel and narrative closure of the investigative drama.

An hour into the movie and I convinced myself that this is yet another sequel that tries to en-cash the popularity and success of the the first part or the root story and tries to spin a story out of thin air (another reason for this is the disclaimer ‘Don’t compare D2 with Dhrishyam’ by Mohanlal himself) as the case is closed, with the families of both the victim and the perpetrator moving on with life, after knowing and acknowledging the truth on their sides.

Then the first twist in the story arrived that nudged me into the actual proceedings prompting me to stop assuming and wait for the coming (reminding me about the reputation of Jeethu Joseph as a writer and the amount of time he took to write the sequel).

Although it might seem like the first act of the movie is a lag or dragged down, the family drama is positioned actually to tell that Georgekutty is trying hard to restore the family back to the normalcy, with him bearing all the responsibility, but the family still struggles to come over the trauma and the guilt and fear are still haunting them even to an extent of spiraling down the elder daughter into a medical condition.

Its the second hour , the narrative catches pace, and gets intriguing. We gradually get the break down of all the exposition Jeethu Joseph has made to push the story to the juncture. The writing gets brilliant and screenplay appears coherent with the dots connected from the prequel. Every detail adds up to the big picture of the crime.

When we realize that the mystery is solved by the police and Georgekutty pays off for the crime, there arrives another twist in the tale. The police are of the impression that Georgekutty has underestimated the intelligence of the police but he never did in the first place. He embraces the nagging feel of the impending danger all these years but musters up strength and courage to stand up for the promise he made to his family (that being the only pressure on him to outwit the police establishment and be on par with the most smart criminals of the police crime history).

Georgekutty is a simpleton. Apart from dreams of making a cinema, influence that he cant get over , that being integral part of his livelihood and only source of wisdom in his small world, all he has is a loving family. So, he fights tooth and nail to safeguard them. But he doesn’t escape the lingering sense of remorse, being weighed down by the guilt, fear and torment.
